The 2011 People’s Choice Awards was hosted by Queen Latifah and featured the biggest and brightest stars in showbiz. Tonight Selena Gomez was also spotted rocking out at the 2011 People’s Choice Awards. Earlier in the evening, Selena was all about hamming it up in the arrivals area with fellow celebrity hottie Ashley Tisdale with also scooping up a trophy for Favorite Breakout Artist.

The theme was "Hollywood chic" on Wednesday night (January 5) at the People's Choice Awards, and all the stars stepped out in their best to celebrate the favorite movies, television shows and musicians of 2010. 

Los Angeles was a bit chilly, but mini-dresses abounded on the sapphire carpet.

Whatever it is, notes CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller, Winfrey promises it will be a real bombshell. Miller observes, while she's keeping the details a secret, it's sent her fans into a frenzy, with speculation online that Winfrey could be revealing the identity of a long lost family member, or even news about her father.



Some even speculate that Oprah is a Mom and will be revealing about her child. Winfrey even revealed she considered suicide after learning of an unwanted teen pregnancy, telling Piers Morgan, "I was 14 years old and … I thought, before the baby was born, 'I'm gonna have to kill myself." 

Through the years, Winfrey has shared some of her most intimate secrets, ranging from an abusive childhood to drug abuse. Now, with her show in its final season, the Queen of Talk has done a series of high-profile interviews, addressing, among other things, rumors of a lesbian relationship with best friend Gayle King. "She's the friend that everyone deserves," Winfrey told Barbara Walters. " … I'm not even kind of lesbian."

With a life lived openly in the public eye, Winfrey's always had a skill for capturing public attention. Miller says, we'll see if she's still got it.

Oprah Winfrey reveals about her friendship with Gayle King to interviewer extraordinaire Barbara Walters in a news special set to be aired on ABC, night at 9PM ET.

"I'm not even kind of a lesbian," she continues. "And the reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm lying. That's number one. Number two, why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life. She is the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves," Winfrey says in the interview. "I don't know a better person. I don't know a better person. It's making me cry because I'm thinking about how much -- I probably have never told her that.”

Winfrey gets choked up and was all emotions discussing how much her friend means to her and  shouts,  “Tissue please. I now need tissue.”

 

Jeggings: The New Hollywood Rage

Jeggings are exremely skinny jeans that look like leggings and are worn like leggings. 

Steven Ameling, fashion critic, stated that while jeggings are acceptable career wear, the blending of the word 'jeans' with the word 'leggings' is, "...an abomination."  

Jeggings were initiated  by the resurgence in style of skinny jeans in the mid  2000s, when a higher demand for even tighter style of pant came about.  Since jeggings are typically made of a denim/spandex blend, they are often worn on their own as opposed to under a skirt or dress. Some jeggings have faux zip-flies and pockets, while others just have an elastic waistband and no pockets. 

Before two years, those who were hesitating to wear something even close to this are now big fans of the new trend and think can not live without this. The problem with these slim types of bottoms is that they’re  bit hard to put on and these especially, can be a little tricky. But once you are past this, you are on a roll.

The Indian fan hysteria is yet to die down though the match is over. It will soon ride over another media hyped hysteria, the moment the Indian team reaches Mumbai. India has convincingly out-bowled the Pakistan team with a ball to spare. But the real match is not limited to only what meets the eyes or ears.

The Pakistan fan depression is about to start with the Pakistan media trial and experts’ opinions of its team’s short-comings that led to the defeat at Mohali.

Pakistan has risen like a Phoenix from its ashes in the coming months which was quite heartening for the people of Pakistan in particular and for the well wishers in general. The team which looked so formidable, which had beaten the Australian team with so much ease, fell to a team which lost to South Africa so easily and could not win against England in spite of a formidable score.

Team Pakistan was thus far known to be with the best bowling combination and Team India was known to be with the weakest of bowling attacks. The result at Mohali demonstrated something contrary to what the experts boasted of. Pakistan, with all its bowling might, failed to bowl out India, who in past were bowled out by teams with far weaker bowling attacks. Not only that, India bowled out Pakistan with the same weaker bowling combination.

What went wrong?  Why did Pakistan the seemingly invincible side lost to its arch rivals?

The answers are simple to comprehend. As Saurav Ganguly has put in simple words, Pakistan lacked class in its batting. I want to add something to this. It is not alone the lack of class in batting it is the lack of class in general.

When there is an earth quake, the structure with the stronger cores stand and the ones with the weaker cores collapse even if they look formidable from outside.

 Matches are not a clash between batting and bowling or between forehand shots and backhand shots; matches are a clash between personalities. Matches are trials of habits acquired by these personalities under most trying conditions. The ones with the toughest winning mindsets out perform the other.

That is what always happens and that is what happened at Mohalli.

Some may come out with reasons such as the advantages of Toss, turning pitch, weather factors such dew etc.  but  as champions are we not supposed perform in spite of all that?

I do not agree with the hind sight of the experts that Pakistan dropped catches. They have tried their best. The players out there were far superior and far committed than the best critic at the stand or in front of a TV. If you had watched the match closely, you will understand the Indian players dropped quite a number of catches. Remember the deflection from Miswah’s bat dropped by Yuvraj from Bhajji’s bowling? Yuvraj failed to judge the spin, that’s what Miswah also did!

India, under the able guidance of Garry Kristen, had burned much mid-night oil or shed much mid-day sweat. They  have toiled much to achieve what they are now. They are an evolving side. They are in a path to winning big, there is no doubt.

What Pakistan should do from now?

There is no dearth of cricketers in Pakistan. They should look at their great history and start laying out a foundation strong enough to face the mightiest of sides.

Pakistan, had already started the journey, but much have to be done. Afridi has come out a winner with the attitude he has shown. He deserves a far superior place than many of his compatriots for the grace he has shown after loosing to a side against whom he has only one option, to win. He might have failed the expectation of his countrymen but he has shown the qualities of a winner.

It is shameful to deny due credit to a worthwhile opponent, but there is no shame in loosing to a better side and acknowledging the quality of one's opponent.

Mary Harvey, his ex-wife of 16 years,  has taken to YouTube to warn those reading Harvey's tomes about the man to whom they are listening, after the bitter divorce. She says Steve cheated on her multiple times, including once with a woman who actually told Mary the sex had been unprotected.

Sad news to report Jack Lalane has died at age 96. He espoused bodybuilding and the virtues of lifting weights, at a time when few had access to them. 

The cause, said Hersh, was respiratory failure due to pneumonia. LaLanne had been ill for the past week.  His wife, Elaine, was at his side, along with his family and friends, Hersh said.

His physical feats included completing 1,000 push-ups and 1,000 chin-ups in 86 minutes in 1959, and in 1984, when aged 70, towing 70 boats 1.5 miles in Long Beach harbour, while he was shackled and handcuffed. Nearly 30 years earlier he swam from Alcatraz island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, also in handcuffs.

At 21, he opened his first gym in Oakland, California. It was 1936, and most doctors at the time warned against working out with weights, believing it could cause a heart attack or ruin a man’s sex drive. Considered a crackpot at the time, La Lanne eventually became America’s foremost authority on fitness. His gym grew into a chain of fitness clubs, with no reports of members dying or losing interest in sex. To add variety to his customers’ workouts, he devised such now-standard equipment as leg-extension machines and weights on pulleys for lifting. Over subsequent years, La Lanne was among the first to produce protein supplements and nutrition bars.

Ashley Turton, Congressional Affairs Director, Found Dead In Burning Car . 


Ashley Turton, director of congressional affairs for Progress Energy, was found dead in a burning car Monday morning in Washington, Politico reports. Turton's husband is White House deputy director of House legislative affairs, Dan Turton.

According to the Washington Post, "a preliminary investigation indicated that the car crashed into the garage of a home in the 800 block of A Street SE."

People in that area  say the fire started at approximately 5:00 AM. "[Metropolitan Police Lt. Nicholas] Breul said fire officials were at the scene two minutes after neighbors dialed 911. The firefighters discovered Turton’s body inside the car, when the fire was extinguished.

 

Turton, 37 and a mother of three, was married to White House Congressional liaison Daniel Turton. She had worked with Progress Energy for more than three years.

“Ashley was a valued employee whose insight and hard work had been critical on so many of our legislative and regulatory issues,” said Progress Energy CEO Bill Johnson in a news release. “She was also a dear friend to many of us and this news is very hard to take. I know we all will keep her husband, children and parents in our thoughts and prayers.”

Jade Duell and Owen Wilson are expecting a baby soon and 42-yr-old Wilson will be a dad for the first time. Jade Duell and Owen Wilson are reportedly very delighted to welcome the new member into their life. Tom DeLay sentenced to 3 years in prison

Former House majority leader Tom DeLay, who helped build and tightly control a Republican majority in his chamber was sentenced by a state judge Monday to three years in prison. 

The charges: Illegally plotting to funnel corporate contributions to Texas legislative candidates.

 
DeLay's passionate  argument that he was the victim of political persecution and was selectively targeted for doing what "everybody was doing", was rejected by State Senior Judge Pat Priest on the ground that “those who write the laws to "be bound by them.”

Priest said he agreed with a jury's verdict in November that DeLay had committed a felony by conspiring to launder corporate money into the state election, and ordered bailiffs to take DeLay - wearing a navy blue suit and his trademark American-flag lapel pin - to jail immediately. DeLay was released, pending an appeal, when his attorneys quickly posted a $10,000 bond.

DeLay  is also sentenced to five years in prison on a separate felony conviction of money laundering,  but  Priest agreed to let him serve 10 years of community service instead of jail time for that charge. Priest acknowledged that DeLay - who said he had already raised and spent $10 million on his defense - would appeal the verdict to higher courts.

Priest delivered this sentence immediately after hearing from prosecutors and the defense Monday.

"I can't be remorseful for something I don't think I did," said DeLay, who had been silent in front of the jury even while he insisted on his innocence during numerous news conferences outside the courtroom. 

Sip-and-see

Sip-and-see parties are basically casual, open-house baby showers held after the child is born. Typically a Sip and See Baby Shower is held a month or two after the baby is born to allow the parents time to adjust and to allow the organizer of the Sip and See Baby Shower time to organize the event and send out invitations.

A "Sip and See" is an open house celebration where guests come and go as they please between given hours. There are normally no games played and gifts are not expected as they are for a baby shower.

Bob's Burgers on Fox

Bob's Burgers, a first bad course?

 

Bob's Burgers premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox. This new animated comedy comes from creator Loren Bouchard  of Home Movies, Lucy, Daughter of the Devil fame. This is about a man, his family and their floundering burger joint which is the stage of the fun. 

BOB BELCHER (H. Jon Benjamin, FAMILY GUY, "Archer"), a third-generation restaurateur, runs a burgers joint with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob has big ideas about burgers, condiments and sides, but only a few thoughts on customer service and business management. Despite his greasy counters, lousy location and occasionally spotty service, Bob is convinced his burgers speak for themselves.

Bob and his lovable and quirky family are convinced their burgers are their ticket to success. I'm especially looking forward to the performance of H. Jon Benjamin, who kills on Archer, and Kristen Schaal, whose career has skyrocketed since she became a stalker on Flight of the Conchords. Both have distinct voices and know how to bring the comedy. Watch interviews with the cast during Comic-Con 2010 at the Fox website.

The pilot of Bob's Burgers has some other elements that also work (including a jealous health inspector who claims cannibalism at Bob's) and a few strands of family sentimentality, character-building and love, the elements that worked so well as the guiding force of "King of the Hill." The key, unsurprisingly, is using Benjamin's note-perfect ability to make Bob funny and likable. When "Bob's Burgers" gets rolling and hints at the smarts that made "Home Movies" and "Dr. Katz" so good, it only makes you long for a distancing on the inane, easy-joke riffs that try to be "edgy."

Some think, it's unwise  and unnecessary  to launch an animated sitcom such as Bob's Burgers that appears intent to ape the vulgarity quotient of "Family Guy." But it remains to be seen what the ultimate outcome is. The series revolves around Bob (Benjamin, who can pretty much make any dialogue funny).

Unifirst In Undercoverboss

Ronald is the president and CEO of  Unifirst, the leading producer of workwear and uniforms in the United States, is the latest Undercover Boss Season 2 Episode 13, on Sunday, Jan. 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.

Unifirst has suffered from persistently high unemployment in the U.S. and Canada. It had reported declining earnings in recent quarters but its top line has shown promise. 


For the quarter ended Nov. 27, UniFirst's profit increased to $23.8 million from $23.6 million a year earlier but declined to $1.20 from $1.21 on a per-share basis as the number of shares outstanding increased slightly. Revenue rose 6.6% to $273.1 million. 

The laundry business, by far the company's largest, had a 5.7% increase in revenue as profit dropped 2.8%. At the specialty garment segment, revenue increased 13% as earnings dropped by the same measure on margin pressures. 

Company shares closed Tuesday at $54.68.

Gabrielle Giffords In Critical Condition

Gabrielle Giffords, a Democratic congresswoman from Arizona, was shot today at a public event outside a grocery store.

A spokesman for the Pima County sheriff says that at least 12 people were shot, with at least 6 fatalities. The Tucson Citizen reports that Rep. Giffords was "shot point blank in the head."

Rep. Giffords, an Arizona Democrat, was first elected to the House in 2006. She represents the state's 8th Congressional District.

The man identified by authorities as the gunman in yesterday’s shooting rampage, which killed six and critically injured Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat of Arizona, appears to have left a trail of bizarre and antigovernment messages on the Internet. Law enforcement sources identified the gunman as Jared Lee Loughner, 22, of Tucson. Loughner, or someone using his name, left postings and homemade videos that laid out a fervent, though largely incoherent, set of political views.


“He wasn’t very outgoing, but he was personable. If you sat down to talk to him, he would talk to you back,’’ said Timothy Cheves, 22, a friend. “But he’d get frustrated with people easily. . . . He’d think that a lot of people were just idiots.’’

That included people in politics, Cheves said: “He was like a radical against both parties. . . . From what I got, it seemed like he didn’t like anybody that was in power.’’
Loughner never talked of using violence, Cheves said, but “there was something there that wasn’t quite right.”

Update :

Doctors are cautiously optimistic that Rep. Giffords, who Reuters writes is "battling for her life," will survive after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

The Los Angeles Times  reports on the congresswoman's progress -- as well as the steep road she faces:

Giffords was conscious and responsive after brain surgery, though former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, a family friend, said she had suffered a "very devastating and very severe" injury.

The biggest panic now in internet is “Is Facebook Shutting Down on March 15,  2011?”

Fake Internet news site World Weekly News published a scandalous story that Facebook will close March 15, 2011, due to the tension that has since founder Mark Zuckerberg through. This type of news does not even worth our time and effort.

In a press conference outside his office in Palo Alto, according to a blog, Zuckerberg said: “Facebook has gotten out of control and stress management this company has ruined my life. I have to stop all the madness. ”. ”I personally do not think it’s a great thing,” he reportedly said in a telephone interview private. ”And to be honest, I think for the better. Without Facebook, people have to go out and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Avrate Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs, Facebook is also quoted in the post blogspot, “After March 15 off the entire site. So if you ever want to see your photos again, I recommend you take them off the Internet. You will not be able to return once Facebook goes out of business. ”

So to confirm, this is a false story of a fake news site, similar to that of the onion and chives. As a reminder, always fact check before transmission of stories.

Can Jamaal Charles break Jim Brown’s record?

Jamaal Charles misses Jim Brown’s(born February 17, 1936)  rushing average record by two-hundredths of a yard. Brown 6.4 yards per attempt; Charles 6.38.

That figure, .02 yards, is .06 feet, or .72 inches. To put it in perspective … well, “this sentence” is definitely longer than .72 inches. Heck, the word perspective might be, too.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles has been one of the NFL’s most explosive running backs this year, but he’s also been a fantasy blight, thanks to Todd Haley’s capricious play-calling. Charles is second in the NFL in rushing yards despite getting just 230 carries this season.  It seems he is a good threat to Jim Brown’s NFL record for yards per carry entering Week 17.

James Nathaniel Brown is an American former professional football player. He  has also made his mark as an actor. He is best known for his exceptional and record-setting nine-year career as a running back for the NFL Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965. In 2002, he was named by The Sporting News as the greatest professional football player ever. He is considered to be one of the greatest professional athletes the U.S. has ever produced.

Brown’s 1,863 rushing yards in the 1963 season remain a Cleveland franchise record. It is currently the oldest franchise record for rushing yards out of all 32 NFL teams. While others have compiled more prodigious statistics, when viewing Brown’s standing in the game his style of running must be considered along with statistical measures. He was very difficult to tackle (shown by his leading 5.2 yards per carry), often requiring more than one person to bring him down.

Jim Brown hasn't made it back to Cotton Bowls very often since he played in the 1957 game, when his Syracuse Orangement were beaten by TCU 28-27. He accepted an invitation to return for this AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic because it will be the 75th.

A jolt-and-roll felt around the Bay Area Friday afternoon. scientists say the 4.1 magnitude quake, followed by several smaller ones, was routine in an area notorious for seismic restlessness.

The earthquake struck 13 miles southeast of San Jose's City Hall at 4:10 p.m. on Friday, in a locked-up patch of rocks deep underground near the Calaveras Fault in a remote oak-studded landscape.

The precise location was identified as 11 miles southeast of Alum Rock and 10 miles north of Mount Hamilton. The jolt was  felt as far away as Santa Cruz and Martinez. Around the South Bay and elsewhere, the earthquake jolted more than few although no one reported any damage.

Though residents in Milpitas and San Jose felt the jolt, police didn't receive an influx of calls. "I was kind of surprised, that no one called. I felt it a little rocking," said Belen Anaya, dispatcher at Milpitas Police.

 
It is  the latest in a series of occasional jolts triggered by the restless fault, which routinely releases stress caused by the earth's shifting continental plates.

Its epicenter was only 1.5 miles from the center of the infamous 1984 temblor in Morgan Hill, which caused damage that totaled more than $10 million. But U.S. Geological Survey scientists do not think it is a precursor to that large quake. They predict a recurrence at that site in another 30 years.

This region, near the intersection with the Hayward fault, is a place of ongoing and often imperceptible earth creeping, as evidenced by routinely broken sidewalks in Hayward and Fremont. But sometimes small sections of rocks -- about four football fields in size -- get stuck, and then trigger an earthquake when they suddenly give way.

The team’s second leading rusher is quarterback Jordan Jefferson who ran for 383 yards this year, but threw for only 1,253 yards.

Gene Sperling To Replace Larry Summers

Gene Sperling, 52,  is to be named as director of the National Economic Council on Friday. It is a tactical move by President Barack Obama that will place a veteran policy and political player in the White House to work with a divided Congress. He is to replace the now dispensable Larry Summers. A new season for a new director, and the incompatibility of summer and winter is obvious.

The role gives Gene Sperling broad oversight of the administration's economic policies. Presently,  the White House contends with near-double digit unemployment and looming legislative battles over the budget and deficit. His appointment comes amid a broader shake-up of Obama's senior staff as the White House ramps up the president's re-election campaign.

The confirmation of Sperling's appointment came from White House early Friday, which had been anticipated for days. Now President Barrack Obama was to announce his new post, as well as other changes to the economic team, later in the day during remarks on the economy.

December jobs report which is out Friday morning shows  the nation's unemployment rate fell to 9.4 percent. It is  the lowest since May 2009.  Perhaps it is  because more people gave up on their job searches than people found jobs. This will be one of President’s key announcements later in the day during remarks on the economy.Sperling advised President Bill Clinton and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and  is perceived as a rare policy adviser who also has a deft touch communicating the message in a legislative and political environment. He is currently a senior counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Hope, Gene Sperling’s  new role will help  to accelerate the recovery and find an antidote to the still sky-high jobless numbers.  Whatever the outcome, it will certainly place him at the center of a debate with economic ramifications for the country and political implications for President Obama when he seeks his          re-election in 2012.

Is John Edwards engaged to Reille Hunter?

Just three weeks after the death of his former wife Elizabeth, John Edwards is reportedly newly engaged to his mistress Reille Hunter.

The National Enquirer is reporting a lot of juicy details (whether or not they’re true has yet to be confirmed) but here are the highlights of the report:

• “In an outrageous disregard for his wife Elizabeth’s deathbed wish, John Edwards proposed to his mistress, Reille Hunter just three weeks after buring his heartbroken spouse.”
• Over the holidays, John introduced his children to Reille and Reille has directed “John’s  young children to call me Mommy.”
• “The disgraced two-time presidential loser ended the late December get-together by pledging his love to Reille and promising they would all eventually become one big happy family.” These are some pretty powerful claims on behalf of the semi-reputable tabloid.

Now the question is, is  it true that John Edwards is engaged to Reille Hunter? 

This man who destroyed his 33-year marriage by cheating on his wife and impregnating his mistress, predictably will do so.

No One Killed Jessica Review

“No One Killed Jessica” is well accepted in the circles of critics and actors alike. The film's storytelling has impressed most of the critics.

The storyline of the film is the   widely publicised  Jessica Lal murder case. The focus of this film is entirely based on the real incident, the actuality behind the dirty political manipulations and the shameful game the power brokers play.

This is not the first time Gupta has worked on a real life jerker. In fact the filmmaker has given previous attempts on such horrid subjects before too. This genre of the film is hard hitting and guts wrenching.

 

As per Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama, "Most storytellers entertain, a few enlighten. A scattering number of celluloid visionaries entertain as well as enlighten. Rajkumar Gupta fits into that exceptional variety of film-makers that opens up thought-processes about the condition of the homeland without losing the cinematic elements that constitute a film."

The director has tried to remain faithful to the happenings that occurred that fateful night. and also what transpired subsequently. Besides depicting reality on celluloid, he adds the thrill element to the plotline, which makes it enchanting.

The public sentiment attached with the Jessica Lall case is also taken care of and it evokes public sentiments. You feel empathy, rage, helplessness, and triumph at every step of the way with our two female protagonists."

Vidya Balan sparkles in her role as  Sabrina, letting the silence speak instead. Her face remains resilient in her pursuit for justice, even if her body language remains  timid. In a scene where she bursts out, letting the pent-up emotions find release through powerful expression of anger.

 In a contrast, Rani Mukherji performed brilliantly as Meera. She has the more appealing role of the two, but a lesser performer might not  not have made the same impact. As the bad-mouthed, strong-willed journalist, she gives one of her best performances till date.

Kaveree Bamzai, India Today says, "Rani is a revelation as the star anchor with a heart of gold and the mouth of a sewer rat. She cusses, curls her lip in contempt at cuties, plays around with juniors, but when it comes to the story she is unerring in pursuing it. Vidya is strong and steady, often startling with her quietude--there's a scene in which she's walking on the street lost in thought and comes up short against an elephant."

The film is successful in keeping the audiences glued to their seats.  When You know the beginning and the ending of a story, it is indeed difficult to engage the viewers for two and a quarter hours. We know  how Jessica Lal was murdered. You also know the guilty will eventually be punished. Yet from the minute the phone rings by Sabrina Lal's bedside, the viewer is on the edge of his seat. The pace is frantic and the dialogues forceful.

"No One Killed Jessica" is  a movie that deserves a standing ovation.
