Florida School Board Shooting

During a school board meeting in Florida, on Tuesday, a 56-year-old gunman entered with a gun in hand and took hostage of several members of the board.

With news cameras rolling, gunman Clay A. Duke calmly walked to a podium, spray painted a mysterious red "V" with a circle around it on a wall. He then ordered everyone to exit the room “except these clowns behind the counter here,” gesturing to several members of the board.

He then engaged in an argument with board members, complaining that the school board “fired my wife,” later saying, “We’re broke.” After the board members tried to talk him down – engaging in a discussion about local taxes – he then opened fire on the superintendent, Bill Husfelt, but missed. When a security guard entered the room and engaged in a shootout with him, he  turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

Despite several shots being fired in the clash  that lasted several minutes, no one else was hit.  Before he started shooting, member Ginger Littleton, who had left the room as ordered, sneaks up behind Duke as he stands next to the long, beige desk where the board was sitting and whacks him on the arm with her large, brown purse made of an alligator-like material.
Minutes before Duke got up, the room had been filled with students receiving awards. It could have been a monumental tragedy had the gun man wished.

As for the V inside a circle that Duke painted, it's the same symbol used in the graphic novel series and movie "V for Vendetta."
