Up On The Housetop

Up On The Housetop

“Up On The Housetop” is a Christmas classic that adults as well as children had enjoyed listening to for years! There are many different songs to pick from when it comes to favorites, but one of the all time favorites that people will be singing and little kids will be learning is “Up On The Housetop.”

This festive season we should make sure that we teach the little ones this song so that it can be passed on from generation to generation.

Benjamin Hanby wrote this song in 1864  in a little town called New Pair,Ohio.  I wonder if he ever thought that it would become a classic. The song got out all over the United States and right into everybody’s very hearts.

Many singers over the years  have recorded this song, but Gene Autry is known for his version of the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as well as Up On The Housetop.

“Up On The Housetop” tells the story of Santa and his reindeer landing on the roof on Christmas Eve to deliver toys to all the good boys and girls in the world.

Lyrics of  “Up On The Housetop”:

Up on the housetop, reindeer pause
Out jumps good ol’ Santa Claus
Down through the chimney with lots of toys
All for the little ones, Christmas joys
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Up on the housetop, click, click, click
Down through the chimney with good Saint Nick!
First comes the stocking of little Nell
Oh, dear Santa, fill it well
Give her a dolly that laughs and cries
One that will open and shut her eyes
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Up on the housetop, click, click, click
Down through the chimney with good Saint Nick!
Next comes the stocking of little Will
Oh, just see what a glorious fill
Here is a hammer and lots of tacks
Also a ball and a whip that cracks
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Ho, Ho, Ho! Who wouldn’t go?
Up on the housetop, click, click, click
Down through the chimney with good Saint Nick!
Merry Christmas!
