Salvia Divinorum
Botanical Name: Genus : Salvia
Species: Divinorum
Common Name: Diviner's Sage, Maria Pastora, Seer's sage or Salvia
Native Habitat : Cloud forests of Mexico, generally shady and damp places.
The plant grows to over a meter high, has hollow square stems, large leaves, and occasional white flowers with violet calyx. Not yet clearly ascertained whether Salvia divinorum is acultigen or a hybrid; native plants reproducevegetatively, rarely producing viable seed.
Effects:
Used by Shamans to facilitate visionary states of consciousness during spiritual healing sessions. Most of the plant's local common names allude to the Mazatec belief that the plant is an incarnation of the Virgin Mary.
It is tested to be of low toxicity , high LD and low addictive potential.
